The Chairman of the Kano Council of Chiefs and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, have advised farmers to consider horse breeding and rearing in the country to prevent the endangerment of horse species.
He expressed concerns about the possible disappearance of horses, much like many other endangered animal species worldwide.
The Emir made this recommendation during a working visit to the Malam Alu Farm and Agro-Allied Company in Birninkudu, Jigawa State.
He was accompanied by the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sunusi.
During the visit, the emir praised the level of investment and modern farming technology applied to the farm, expressing optimism that it would soon become one of the best in Nigeria and Africa.
The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sunusi, commended the chairman of the farm, Honourable Faruk Adamu Aliyu, for his foresight and investment in line with the current administration’s food security policy.
He also called for the reintroduction of the Bank of Agriculture, situated in the northern parts of the country, a major food-producing area.
He appealed to the federal government to provide more support to large-scale farmers like the Honourable Faruk Adamu Aliyu to establish farms like Malam Alu Farm across the country, particularly in the north.
The Honourable Faruk Adamu Aliyu, the chairman of the Malam Alu Farm and Agro-Allied Company, explained that the farm is an 80-hectare integrated farm involved in poultry, dairy, greenhouse cultivation of tomatoes and other vegetables, fishery, and fertiliser production.
The farm employs over 1,000 people, with 250 on monthly salaries, mostly recruited from nearby villages.
He also highlighted that the greenhouse produces 15 tonnes of tomatoes every week, and the fertiliser blending factory produces 400 tonnes per day.
The Honourable Aliyu encouraged elites to invest in agriculture in their localities to create jobs and reduce poverty and crime among the local population.
