Jeremiah Umaru, House of Representative member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency at the national assembly under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has distributed pumping machines, knapsack sprayers, fertilisers to 220 farmers to promote dry season farming in the constituency.
The participants who underwent intensive three-day training on modern storage techniques and business opportunities in agriculture were given one pumping machine, knapsack sprayer, and two bags of fertilisers each at the end of the training on Saturday in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the member said the training was to equip the farmers with the technical know-how to ensure food security.
Umaru who was represented by Bala Moses-John, his Special Adviser on constituency projects, said he decided to empower them to encourage dry-season farming to tackle and ensure food security.
He added that the training and empowerment programme for farmers was in collaboration with the Federal College of Agriculture, Produce Technology, Kano.
Umaru explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from the 35 electoral wards of the three Local Government Areas (LGAs) that make up the constituency.
Akwanga has 11 electoral wards, Nassarawa-Eggon 14 while Wamba has 10 electoral wards respectively.
The lawmaker promised that he would continue to bring many empowerment programmes to his people in different areas to justify their mandate to him at the poll.
Umaru therefore promised to continue to operate an open-door policy and carry the people of the area along irrespective of their ethnic, religious, or political party affiliations.
On his part, Aminu Usman representative of Federal College of Agriculture, Produce Kano, lauded the member for collaborating with them to empower farmers in his area.
He also commended the resource persons for taking their time to educate the participants on modern storage techniques, business opportunities in agriculture as well as dry season farming.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Adams Maka-Nangba, District Head of Wakama lauded the lawmaker for the training and items they were given.
He, therefore, promised that the beneficiaries would utilise the knowledge gained and items given for the benefit of the state.
The items distributed includes; 220 pumping machines, 220 knapsack sprayers, 220 Indorama fertilisers and 440 NPK 20-10-10 fertilisers respectively.
