Ondo South Advancement and Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA), has commended the senator representing Ondo South senatorial district, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim on the bill he sponsored for the establishment of Nigerian Bitumen Development Commission.
It would be recalled that the public hearing of the bill was held on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the National Assembly complex.
OSAWA, which was one of the prominent interest groups invited to the public hearing was led by its President, Ade Aworetan, who ensured active and robust participation at the public through the association Committee on Bitumen Framework and Exploration headed by Akintan Akinyemi.
The committee in a statement urged the senate to consider the passage of the bill in the interest of the country to meet up the $110 billion global bitumen market.
The statement reads, ” OSAWA as a body strongly supported the establishment of the commission having considered so many factors most especially the environmental needs assessment that would allow the commission to live up to its mandate and ensure Nigeria is engaged in the world Bitumen market of $110billion.
“The association reiterated that politics and bureaucracy should not be put at fore front but sincere agitation that would bring economic prosperity to the mandate area, host community, Ondo State, and Nigeria in general, thereby creating more economic value and prosperity to the nation which would in turn create job opportunities, directly and indirectly to the state and nation at large.
“OSAWA praised the Senator representing Ondo South senatorial for his doggedness in driving the bill to public hearing stage which according to them is a signal that will usher in progress and also serve the nation as another main source of Nigerian economy drivers.
“It was noted that Nigeria has a road network of 300,000 km but only 30,000 has reflections of being tarred at the moment indicating that the commission has internal market opportunities for infrastructural growth and export opportunities for the global bitumen market.”
