The Borno State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed solidarity with Senator Ali Ndume, who was recently removed as Senate Chief Whip after criticising President Bola Tinubu’s governance.
A delegation led by the party’s acting chairman, Engineer Isiaku Yakubu, visited Ndume’s residence in Maiduguri on Saturday to condole with him over the loss of his sister-in-law and to condemn his removal from office.
Yakubu described Ndume’s removal as “unfortunate” and accused the APC of running the country with “dictatorship and hatred” towards constructive criticism.
He presented Ndume with a condolence letter and an invitation to join the Labour Party, praising his “wealth of experience” and urging him to help move the country forward.
Ndume thanked the delegation for their support and emphasized the importance of opposition in a democracy. He revealed that he had received invitations from three opposition parties but clarified that he was one of the founders of the APC and would consult with his constituents before making a decision.

The visit comes after Ndume criticized Tinubu’s presidency for alleged solo governance and failure to address hunger, insecurity, and poverty. The APC subsequently asked him to resign and join an opposition party, leading to his removal as Chief Whip and Vice Chairman of the Appropriation Committee.
The Labour Party has expressed admiration for Ndume’s courage in standing up for the Nigerian masses and has left its door open for him to join the party.
