Chelsea are contemplating the sale of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic just a year after his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

After establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in MLS, Chelsea signed the Serbian international last summer in a deal initially valued at £12.5 million.

During the tumultuous 2023-24 season at Stamford Bridge, Petrovic made his Premier League debut as a substitute in December, filling in for the injured Robert Sanchez. He continued as Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season, keeping five clean sheets.

Despite being excluded from Chelsea’s squad for the pre-season tour of the US due to a minor injury, Petrovic is expected to join the team there soon. However, his long-term future in west London appears uncertain.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are now open to offers for Petrovic amid concerns over his suitability under new head coach Enzo Maresca. The club is exploring alternative goalkeeper options, ruling out moves for Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal and James Trafford of Burnley.

Chelsea have already made initial inquiries about Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, highly rated by scouts at the club.

Additionally, Kepa Arrizabalaga has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell at Real Madrid last season, but he is likely to be sold in the coming weeks. A recent bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for the 28-year-old was turned down.

Ben Chilwell is another Chelsea player who could depart this summer, as The Athletic reports that he may not fit into Maresca’s tactical plans. The club is willing to entertain offers for him if the right price is offered.

Other players potentially on the chopping block include Romelu Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Cesare Casadei, and David Datro Fofana.
