Umahi’s appointment unlocked Igbo people’s support, solidarity for APC — Ohanaeze

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has stated that the appointment of Senator David Umahi as the Minister of Works by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been instrumental in unlocking the support and solidarity of the Igbo people for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.

The Igbo apex group disclosed this in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, on Sunday as Umahi marked one year in office.

According to the group, Umahi’s historic appointment has not only brought joy and pride to the Igbo people but also signified a new era of partnership between the Southeast and the Federal Government.

Isiguzoro assured the President that the people of the Southeast remain committed to working hand in hand with his government toward a brighter and more prosperous future for Nigeria.

He commended President Tinubu for the ongoing infrastructural development in the Southeast, particularly the construction and rehabilitation of federal highways.

According to him, these projects have played a significant role in fostering a renewed sense of unity and cooperation between the region and the Federal Government.

“The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing an Igbo man, Senator Dave Nweze Umahi, as the Minister of Works.

“Before the swearing-in of Senator Umahi on August 21, 2023, there were widespread concerns over the underrepresentation of the Southeast in ministerial positions.

However, President Tinubu’s strategic decision to assign the vital Works portfolio to an Igbo Minister has proven to be a game-changer.

The ongoing infrastructural development in the Southeast, particularly the construction and rehabilitation of federal highways, has played a significant role in fostering a renewed sense of unity and cooperation between the region and the Federal Government.

“The deplorable state of federal roads in the Southeast and the historical neglect of the region’s infrastructure have long been sources of discontent and grievances among the Igbo people.

The appointment of Senator Umahi as Minister of Works has not only addressed these long-standing issues but also demonstrated President Tinubu’s genuine commitment to the development and progress of the Southeast.

“The transformational impact of Senator Umahi’s leadership in the Ministry of Works cannot be overstated.

His dedication, professionalism, and innovative policies have been instrumental in advancing President Tinubu’s vision for a better Nigeria.

Signature projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway and the Sokoto-Lagos Super Highway are testaments to Senator Umahi’s unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians through improved road networks and economic growth.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is pleased to acknowledge the positive strides made by Senator Umahi in his role as Minister of Works.

His exemplary service has not only earned the respect and admiration of the Igbo people but also paved the way for a stronger and more collaborative relationship between the Southeast and the Federal Government.

“In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirms its gratitude to President Tinubu for the historic appointment of an Igbo Minister of Works and recognizes the pivotal role that Senator Umahi has played in unlocking the support and solidarity of the Igbo people for the APC-led Federal Government.

The Southeast remains committed to working hand in hand with President Tinubu toward a brighter and more prosperous future for Nigeria.”
