Ondo guber: NURTW declares support for Aiyedatiwa

Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo state, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state on Thursday, have thrown their weight behind Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The leadership of the NURTW in the state attributed the open endorsement of the governor to the achievements recorded by the governor in the area of road construction and infrastructural development.

The Chairman of the Ondo State NURTW, Ademola Odudu, said Aiyedatiwa has exhibited his dedication towards the growth and development of the state, especially in the area of transportation and addressing the concerns of transport workers.

Odudu said “We have seen first hand the positive impact of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership on our sector, his administration has not only improved our road networks but has also ensured the safety and prosperity of our members.

“We believe that his election into office come November 16 will bring even more development to Ondo State.”

The chairman also addressed common misconceptions about the NURTW, asserting that the union is composed of responsible and law-abiding citizens, not thugs or rascals.

“We are a union of individuals committed to the progress of Ondo State. Our support for Governor Aiyedatiwa is a reflection of our shared vision for the state’s future,” he added.

Also, a national leader of NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, lauded Aiyedatiwa’s outstanding leadership, highlighting that his leadership qualities have garnered strong support from union members.

He urged all the drivers in the state to continue rallying support for the Governor’s election.

Responding, Governor Aiyedatiwa, who thanked the union for the endorsement, said that the vital role the NURTW plays in the state’s economy, particularly in enhancing transportation and ensuring smooth connectivity across communities, cannot be undermined.

The Governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to continuing its partnership with the NURTW to further develop the state’s infrastructure and improve the welfare of transport workers.

“I am truly honored by the support of this union, your contribution to our state’s development, especially in the transportation sector, is invaluable.

“My administration is committed to ensuring that the NURTW and its members continue to thrive in a conducive and secure environment.

“Our drivers are the eyes on the road, witnessing firsthand what happens. If you notice anyone or any group attempting to disrupt the peace we currently enjoy in the state, please report them to the appropriate authorities.

“This way, we can continue to maintain peace and harmony throughout Ondo State”, Aiyedatiwa said

The Governor also informed the union that his administration plans to include its members in the informal sector of the health insurance scheme, which is set to begin on September 6.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, praised the NURTW for maintaining peace within their ranks and expressed his appreciation to the members for their cooperation with the leadership.

Those in attendance included the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Tayo Oluwatuyi; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan and APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin.
