Edo election: NANS declares support for PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) declared support for Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

The Deputy Coordinator of NANS Zone B, Comrade Isaac Ogieva, disclosed this to journalists in Benin City. He said the decision was reached after thorough consultations with relevant stakeholders of the association.

Ogieva noted that the stakeholders examined the candidates of various political parties participating in the election before taking a stand.

He attributed their decision to support the PDP candidate and his running mate to their manifesto on education, from primary to tertiary levels, and their commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian students residing in Edo State.

The NANS leader described the endorsement as historic for the student movement and expressed satisfaction with the PDP’s manifesto on the economy, agriculture, health, infrastructure, youth development, and sports.

He added: “We must speak our minds openly about the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.

“It has been asserted by knowledgeable authorities that during times of fundamental change, anyone or any group that sits on the fence is either a coward, a traitor, or both. NANS and its members are neither of the above.”

Continuing, Ogieva urged all Nigerian students in Edo State to vote for the Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie ticket under the PDP.

He stated that the NANS leadership will serve as a bridge between students and the PDP candidate if elected.
