Your Career Has Been Incredible” – Ex-Liverpool Star Advises Ronaldo to Retire

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to consider retiring from football, suggesting he should make the decision by the end of the current season.

Despite approaching 40, Ronaldo, who now plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, has continued to perform impressively. He has started the 2024-25 campaign strongly, with four goals and two assists in four appearances across all competitions.

Lawrenson, whose own career spanned over three decades, believes Ronaldo should retire when his current contract expires next June. Speaking to Paddy Power via GOAL, Lawrenson said:

“Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring in Saudi Arabia, but would he sign a new contract there? I’m not sure.

“This is the moment when he needs a close friend to say, ‘You’ve had an incredible career. Maybe at the end of this season, hang up your boots and let people remember you for what you’ve achieved.’

“He wouldn’t want to spend half a season scoring just six goals in the Saudi league.”
