Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has openly withdrawn his support for Umar Damagum as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke’s stance aligns with the PDP Governors’ Forum, which is pushing for Damagum’s removal to pave the way for the appointment of a North Central representative, in line with the party’s constitution.
The PDP’s leadership crisis has intensified since the ousting of former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, in 2022.
According to the party’s constitution, a representative from the North Central zone should succeed Ayu. However, Damagum’s continued leadership has sparked division, with some governors backing his retention.

Governor Adeleke, in a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, reaffirmed his support for the forum’s resolution and the party’s constitutional guidelines.
“I stand by the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum, of which I am an integral part,” Adeleke said. “Our party must adhere to its constitution at this critical time and at all times. That is the way to build a responsible political party.”
