Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals, RS11.3 Oyo Sector Command has finally enrolled about 200 successful candidates who applied for the Special Marshals membership in the state.
Speaking at the opening training ceremony held last Saturday at the Federal Cooperative College, Eleyele, Ibadan, the State Coordinator, Pastor John Adegbotoluwa stated that the newly enlisted Special Marshals were selected for the Special Marshals services having found worthy to be members, following a rigorous screening held for over a thousand candidates that applied to join the sector.
According to the State Coordinator, the successful candidates were drawn from different local government areas in the state for one-month intensive training exercise to familiarise the newly enlisted Special Marshals with the basic responsibilities and practice of the FRSC, most especially the activities of Special Marshalls in the country.
Speaking further, he said: “This training is in accordance with Specials Marshals’ guidelines session,” stating that “A comprehensive Training/ Induction programme shall be conducted for the successful candidates using the training manual. There shall be four training sections during which the trainees shall be exposed to road watch for one month under supervision of the Regular Marshals with a view to observing the practical operational processes and procedures. The period of probation shall be six months,”.
While Pastor Adegbotoluwa expressed appreciation to the newly enlisted Special Marshals for their interest to serve their father land, he thanked the sector Commander, CC Joshua O. Adekanye, for his usual cooperation and support towards the growth and development of Special Marshals in the state.
Speaking in the same vein, the Sector Commander RS11.3, Oyo Sector Command, CC J.O Adekanye, while congratulating the newly recruited Special Marshals in the state, reiterated that the FRSC is saddled with the responsibility of creating safe motoring environment and to reduce road traffic crashes to barest minimum, adding that the Corps is set to achieve society where road crashes lead to no death.
Dr Ebenezer Okebukola, former Head of Service , Oyo State, and the overseer of Special Marshals in Nigeria, urged the newly enlisted Special Marshals to digest the special marshalls guidelines so that they would be grounded in the rules and regulations guiding the operations of the corps.
He commended the state officers of the Special Marshals for their effective management of the corps.
Some of the papers presented for the training were; history of FRSC and who is a Special Marshal, Causes of road traffic crashes and crash prevention (Defensive driving), Operational procedures.
Others include; Special Marshall’s discipline and disciplinary procedures education, Special Marshals’ code of conduct and schedule of offence and penalties knowledge, Causality handling and first Aid application, The Highway code literacy- road signs, Signals markings, as well as Traffic control techniques education.p
