Gov Eno moves to intervene on internal roads, hostel projects at Akwa Ibom varsity

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed immediate intervention in the construction of internal roads at the Main Campus of the State University, Ikot Akpaden.

The governor has also expressed readiness to complete the student hostel projects at the institution.

Governor Eno, who made the announcement during a familiarisation tour of facilities at the University, assured that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebiet, and her Works counterpart, Professor Eno Ibanga, are to commence work on the intervention process immediately.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, has already told me that the Hostel is a priority. We are going to look at it and try to support the University in completing the Hostel.

“We would like to thank TEDFUND for the support they have given us. When we were driving here, we also noticed the roads, and I have already spoken to the Honourable Commissioner for Works, who is also from here. I am sure that very soon we will do a few interventions on the roads”, he assured.

Governor Eno used the occasion to express appreciation to the university community for their support during the electioneering period, saying that the gesture contributed immensely to his emergence as Governor of the state and pledged his commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

He also thanked TEDFUND for the support they have given to his government and assured the school community that he will revisit the institution for more interactions and support for the growth of the school.

The Governor used the occasion to applaud the Pro-Chancellor, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, for his contributions to the development of the state and urged other well-meaning citizens of the State to emulate his gesture.

Earlier, the Pro-chancellor of the University, Senator Udoma Udoma, thanked Governor Eno for honouring his invitation and spoke glowingly on the exploits of the institution, assuring the governor of an improved state university that will contribute positively to the ARISE agenda of his government and highlighting his determination to make the school one of the first-class Universities in the country.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Nse Essien, who also applauded the Governor on the visit, enumerated achievements of the institution to include full accreditation of 48 academic programmes by the National Universities Commission, NUC; Six Engineering Departments with full accreditation by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria; and full institutional accreditation by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, ICAN, for the Accounting Department.

At the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, where he also visited, Governor Eno assured the State government of assistance in the construction of 15 classroom blocks and two hostels at the permanent site of the institution, as well as on other interventionist projects.

The Governor also used the opportunity to visit the Coconut Plantation at Eastern Obolo and Mkpat Enin LGAs and the low-cost housing estate at Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
