The Chairman of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Hajara Danyaro Ibrahim, has called on Nigerian women to support fellow women aspiring for political positions to enable them to succeed and make positive contributions to society.
Hon. Danyaro, representing Nasarawa Central Constituency, made this appeal while hosting the Nasarawa State Chapter of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) at the Assembly complex in Lafia.
She urged women to actively participate in politics for their own interests and for the overall development of the country.
“Let’s actively engage in politics to make positive contributions to society.
The problem is that if we see a woman or women contesting for political positions, it’s often the same woman or women who say they will not support or vote for them.”
“Why are we doing this to ourselves, especially when we’ve been complaining that women don’t get enough positions or appointments?” she questioned.
She emphasised the importance of supporting each other based on merit and competency, sharing both joys and challenges at all times.
Hon. Danyaro assured of her commitment to continue being a voice for women and to protect their interests while performing her duties.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for appointing women into government positions and appealed for more appointments of women in that direction.
The lawmaker called on women to continue supporting Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration for its success.
Hon. Danyaro also assured of her commitment to addressing the challenges facing women in the state.
Earlier, Mrs. Mary Meshi, the President of NCWS, Nasarawa State, mentioned that the visit was to congratulate Hon. Danyaro on her election and inauguration as a member of the state legislature.
She also stated that the visit aimed to identify with the lawmaker and assure her of their support at all times.
“We want to thank God for your election into the state assembly. You are the second woman to be here after Hon. Mary Enwongulu, the former Minority Leader.
“We believe in your capacity and capability to represent us and other women effectively,” she said.
The president urged Hon. Danyaro to enact laws that would add value to women and other people in the state.
