An insurance and business-focused media firm, Insurance Press Limited (IPL), in collaboration with the Centre for Financial Journalism (CFJ), and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lagos, has trained no fewer than 100 Lagos-based journalists on insurance reporting to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Centre for Financial Journalism, Dr Ray Echebiri, said at the All-Inclusive Mass Media training on Thursday, September 21, described journalists as “watchdogs” adding that a robust understanding of the scope of insurance and the important role of practitioners combined with a heightened concept of responsibility of the latter to his community in and off the beat would be a partnership that can contribute significantly in rescuing the economy and impact vulnerable groups.
The aim of the programme, according to the organisers, is to raise risk awareness and the importance of insurance protection for African economies, communities and vulnerable groups.
One of the guest speakers, Dr Omogbai Omo-Eboh (SAN) said the role of journalism in deepening insurance wellness in society cannot be overemphasised adding that the role of journalist is, to tell the truth and be objective in reporting stories without any form of bias.
In his remarks, Anderson Ozakpo urged the participants to embrace technology in the course of discharging their professional duties.
