Nasarawa Assembly committee pledges support for Ministry of Women Affairs

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs has pledged to support the State Ministry of Women Affairs to enhance service delivery.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Hajara Danyaro Ibrahim (APC Nasarawa Central), stated this when the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Haj. Aisha Rafai Ibrahim paid her a familiarisation visit in her office on Tuesday in Lafia.

Hon. Danyaro, who spoke extensively on the significant role of the ministry in enhancing the welfare of women, children, and disabled people, as well as their general well-being, reiterated the state assembly’s commitment to giving the ministry all the needed support to succeed.

“I want to commend you for the visit to brief the committee on the activities of the ministry before the budget defence.

We will work in synergy with you to improve the welfare of women, the disabled, and other vulnerable groups in the state,” she said.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Haj. Aisha Rafai Ibrahim said she was in her office alongside lined agencies of the ministry to familiarise themselves with the House committee ahead of budget defence and assessment.

“The ministry is in your office for a familiarisation visit to brief the committee on the activities of the ministry and its challenges before the official budget defence,” she added.

The visit centred on emerging issues, including the welfare of women, disabled people in society, child abuse, out-of-school children, street begging, and hawking, as well as ways to achieve a violence-free society, among others. Federal Government Empowerment programmes were also tabled for discussion.
