The All Progressives Congress has established the Oyo State Progressives Movement as part of its repositioning plans for the 2027 general election.
The movement consists of notable party members, including Chief Lowo Obisesan, Prof. Laolu Akande, and Mr. Babatunde Kolajo.
The formation of the movement is aimed at promoting the ideals of progressive-minded philosophy propagated and pursued by leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige, and Alhaji Lam Adesina, uniting like-minded individuals, and strengthening their political base in Oyo State, Nigeria.
“At the heart of this movement lies a set of common ideals shared by its inspiring leaders. These ideals are rooted in the belief that effective governance should prioritise the development of human capital, economic empowerment, social justice, and the promotion of inclusive policies that benefit all citizens.
“The movement recognises that progress is not a one-size-fits-all concept; rather, it is a dynamic force that requires adaptability, innovation, and a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by the people.”
Barrister Lowo Obisesan, a prominent Ibadan Chief, emphasised that the movement stands firmly for a government that invests in the people, provides quality education, accessible healthcare, and creates job opportunities.
“We aim to build a society where no one is left behind, where the aspirations of the youth, the wisdom of the elders, and the dreams of every citizen are nurtured and supported.”
In his submission, Prof. Laolu Akande, a prominent lawyer and political heavyweight from Okeogun and former Chairman of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), stated, “We believe in a politics that is inclusive and participatory, where the voices of the people are heard and their needs are prioritised.
Our doors are open to all, regardless of background, as we seek to build a movement that reflects the diversity of Oyo State.”
Babatunde Kolajo from the Saki West local government area added that “our progressive movement aims to bridge the gap between the government and the people.
We will leverage technology, create platforms for citizen engagement, and ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
We envision a future where the government is accessible, responsive, and works hand in hand with the people to achieve shared goals.”
Inspiring Leadership and Unity: Alhaji Kehinde Balogun, an Ibadan political stalwart, alongside many other party chieftains across Oyo State, including Alhaj Fakewu, Hon Salawu, and Pa Babalola, recognises the power of unity in achieving the movement’s goals.
He states, “We are committed to fostering unity within the APC and across party lines. Our movement transcends individual interests and focuses on the collective well-being of the people.
We invite everyone who shares our vision to join us and be part of this inspiring journey. Together, we can create a brighter future for Oyo State.”
The emergence of this progressive movement within the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State heralds a new era of demanding visionary leadership, grassroots engagement, inclusive party politics, and governance.
With a focus on promoting progressive ideals, empowering the people, and prioritising the needs of the masses, this movement aims to strengthen a wide political base and win elections in the upcoming dispensation.
