100 youths in Bauchi State, comprising males and females, commenced a 3-month training on sustainable agriculture facilitated by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) under its Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).
The Director General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Fikpo, flagged off the commencement of the training in Bauchi.
Represented by the Bauchi state coordinator of NDE, Alhaji Lawan Yaya, the DG said that the training was being carried out as one of its programmes to make youths self-reliant and employers of labour.
Abubakar Fikpo explained that the training was taking place in 12 states of the federation, adding that the aim is to create employment for rural communities through training on modern, innovative agricultural technology. This, he said, included vegetable crops and livestock production skills along its value chain.
He also said that the training is aimed at improving the livelihood of rural people and reducing rural-urban migration, adding that each trainee would be given the sum of N5,000 per month as a transportation fee.
He said, “Let me remind the participants to see this gesture as a rare opportunity that should not be allowed to fail.”
The DG stressed that, “Remember that with the training, you will be empowered in modern agriculture and life skills to be able to overcome challenges in your immediate environment.”
He further said, “This training provides you with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge required to set up your agribusinesses.”
“You should, therefore, justify these efforts by putting in your best to succeed so that, in due time, you too will become employers of labour and agripreneurs,” he said.
The NDE boss also called on all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands and partner with the NDE for the benefit of the unemployed in the country.
One of the participants, Musa Sa’idu, who spoke to journalists on behalf of the trainees, appreciated the present administration of the federal government for making NDE impactful on the lives of youths in the state and the country at large.
