Wife of Ebonyi State Governor Mrs Marymaudline Nwifuru has called on parents, caregivers to always vaccinate their children.
According to her, vaccination of children is safe, effective in protecting the children from the contagious disease and a vehicle to a brighter, healthier future.
The Ebonyi First Lady gave the charge at the weekend during the kicked-off ceremony of 2023 Measles Vaccination campaign exercise at Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area of the State.
According to her, measles had continued to pose threat to children’s health in the State.
“Immunisation exercise is an initiative that holds the power to protect our children, give value to life and transform their futures.
“Our duty as parents, caregivers, responsible citizens and government is to take action and ensure that our children are protected from this devastating illness.”
Collaborating, Deputy Governor of the State, Mrs Patricia Obila, called on all local government stakeholders, especially the chairmen to give the exercise a top priority, adding that the state government was committed to improving efficiency and effectiveness of the exercise.
She however urged the community leaders to ensure Community participation and mobilisation of children and eligible adults for the vaccination campaign.
In her part, Mrs Vivian Ibe, State Coordinator World Health Organisation (WHO) noted that the state had so far, recorded over Ten (10) cases of measles in 2023. She then commended the state government, partners and UN agencies in the state for their support to the exercise.
Ibe stressed the need for all to take advantage of the vaccination exercise as a priority to protect children from the burden.
The ALGON Chairman Chief Moses OgodoAli, promised that the council Chairmen will reach out to difficult areas in the rural communities to ensure the safety of all citizens.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health Moses Ekuma stated that the vaccination is not optional but compulsory for all children between 9 months old to 59months old.
