A total of 240 pupils, comprising males and females, are participating in the 2023 38th edition of the Bauchi State Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Kafin Madaki, the headquarters of the Ganjuwa local government area of the state.
While declaring the competition open on Saturday, State Governor Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir charged the judges and other officials to discharge their duties with the utmost fear of Allah.
Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, noted that the introduction of the Qur’anic Recitation Competition since 1986 has immensely contributed to engaging youths in concentrating on learning and memorising the Holy Qur’an.
He appreciated the outstanding performances of Bauchi State delegates in the competition at both national and international levels over the years, which have brought honour to the state.
He mentioned that the excellent performance of the delegates informed the decision of the state government to support the annual conduct of the Qur’anic Competition by providing the requirements of both the organisers and participants.
According to him, “I am aware that about 240 competitors, both males and females, have been selected to participate in the 38th edition of this year’s State Qur’anic Recitation Competition in six categories, out of which only 12 will be selected to represent the state at the National Competition.”
“There is, therefore, a need for each and every participant to work hard and obey the rules and regulations of the competition to enable him or her to be selected to represent the state in the forthcoming National Musabaqa scheduled to be held in Yobe State,” he added.
Bala Mohammed called on the Commissioner of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Societal Re-orientation, the Caretaker Chairman of Ganjuwa Local Government Area, the Chairman, and members of the State Qur’anic Recitation Competition Committee to work tirelessly towards ensuring the success of the programme.
The governor said, “I wish to thank the Almighty Allah for sparing our lives to witness the opening ceremony of the 38th edition of the State Qur’anic Recitation Competition. May the Almighty Allah reward whoever contributes spiritually, morally, and financially to the success of the competition with Jannatul Firdausi.”
In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza, and Chairman of the State Qur’anic Recitation Competition Committee, Imam Hassan Usman Zango, expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting the conduct of the annual competition.
