Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Nigeria, has inaugurated the Majidadi Institute of Islamic Research and Advancement as part of his efforts to promote educational knowledge among Almajiris and enhance both Quranic and Western education.
This initiative coincided with the commemoration of his 67th birthday.
Senator Kwankwaso explained that the Islamic centre aims to provide Almajiris who have memorised the Holy Quran with training and certification in primary, secondary, and diploma programmes.
He emphasised that the goal is not only to reduce the number of beggars on the streets but also to offer life-changing opportunities to those who are currently begging.
“They will undergo rigorous training in both English and Arabic studies and use the certificates to pursue academic careers and reach their full potential in the pursuit of knowledge,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also announced that the institute, which is established at his Miller Road residence, will be open to people from all backgrounds.
“The centre is designed to register individuals who have memorised the Quran, select those who meet the requirements, and provide them with an education.
The curriculum includes expedited training to earn primary and secondary certificates as well as a diploma in Islamic education. This will enable them to access universities and achieve great success in their educational journeys,” he explained.
Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State commended Senator Kwankwaso for this initiative, emphasising that it will contribute to further developments in the state’s education sector.
He also pledged that the state government would rehabilitate the 44 Tsangiya Islamic Schools across local government areas and provide the necessary learning materials for a conducive learning environment.
