Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the health sector on Wednesday, assuring residents of the state that his government would continue to ensure that quality healthcare services were accessible and affordable to them.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this assurance during a courtesy visit by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, at the Lagos House, Marina.
The governor congratulated Alausa on his well-deserved appointment as the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare by President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that the minister, who hails from Lagos State, would excel in his role as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Sanwo-Olu also expressed his strong belief that the Minister would collaborate with state governments and other ministers to enhance the quality of healthcare service delivery in the country.
“Our conversation with you has confirmed our preparedness and our level of collaboration with the Federal Government. We want to assure you that we are willing to collaborate in areas where your expertise can complement all the things that we are doing so that our people, who are why we are in government, can benefit from all the interventions we implement.
“We want to assure you, Dr. Alausa, that Lagos State is more than ready and prepared to take various steps to ensure that healthcare is not only accessible but also affordable,” the governor stated.
In his remarks, the minister expressed the Federal Government’s readiness to support the Lagos State Government and other sub-nationals in providing affordable and accessible healthcare services to residents.
Dr. Alausa urged the Lagos State government to do more, especially in the implementation of the State Universal Health Insurance policies. His visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu aimed to make Lagos an example to other states across the country, providing improved healthcare in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He also encouraged Nigerians, particularly females between the ages of nine and 14 years, to take the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine launched on Tuesday. He noted that the vaccine, which is safe and effective, has the potential to prevent cervical cancer by 95 percent.
Dr Alausa, accompanied by many officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and aides, stated that Lagos was his first port of call for his working visits to the 36 states of the Federation.
