Game Over: Supreme Court dismisses Atiku’s appeal against Tinubu’s election

The seven-member panel of the Supreme Court has just dismissed an appeal brought before it by former Vice President Abubakar Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) had on September 6, 2023 dismissed the petition filed by Atiku and his party against Tinubu’s election for lacking in merit.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, the Petitioners approached the Supreme Court with an appeal seeking the setting aside of the judgement of the lower court and annul Tinubu’s election.

Justice John Inyang Okoro who read the lead judgement also dismissed the interlocutory application filed by the appellants seeking to tender fresh or additional evidence in the matter.

Justice Okoro held that the apex court lacked the requisite jurisdiction to grant the request of the appellants.
