Off-season election: Imo CP assures maximum security ahead Nov 11 poll

Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mohammed Ahmed Barde has assured the law-abiding residents of the State of their maximum safety and security during and after the upcoming gubernatorial election

In a statement issued in Owerri Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye, the CP made this known during the flag-off of a two-day intense training workshop organised for Election Security Officers in the State.

He urged Imolites to turn out en masse and vote for the candidate of their choice without any fear of intimidation or molestation.

He said that the training on Election Security Management conducted on the 25th and 26th of October, 2023 aims at equipping officers that will be deployed in the upcoming gubernatorial election with the requisite knowledge and Standards Operational Procedure (SOP) needed for effective delivery of a democratic human-right compliant police service before, during and after the election.

The Commissioner admonished the dedicated officers to adhere strictly to the tenets of the Electoral Act as amended and charged them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and neutrality while discharging their lawful duties during and after the upcoming off-season election.

He assured Imolites of the Command’s unalloyed commitment to collaborating with other sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the relevant stakeholders in the state, in conducting a peaceful, credible transparent and acceptable election.

Barde beckons on Politicians of the various Political Parties in the State to adopt the spirit of sportsmanship and play the rules by avoiding the use of hate speech, abusive language, or inciting statement that is likely to stir up violence or heat the Polity in the State.

He also enjoins Imolites to remain law abiding and vigilant and report any suspicious activities observed in their communities to the nearest police station.
