Ogun Governor, Mr Dapo Abiodun, a staff of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper in Osun, Prince Adeolu Adeyemo, Dr. Femi Adefila, the Chief Executive Officer, Rave F. M and Mr. Ayobami Agboola of New Telegraph Newspaper were among the awardees of the Nigeria Union Of Journalists, Osun State Council on Thursday.
The awardees who were awarded for their outstanding performances and contributions to their different professions and societies at large were honoured during the Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council press week held at the Olu- Osugbohun hall, Osogbo.
Prince Adeolu, the Tribune staff emerged winner of Overall Best Newspaper Journalist of the Year while other distinguished awardees were also presented with awards in their different areas that had contributed to the growth of humanities.
However, the Overall best newspaper journalist of the year was sponsored by an outstanding media icon and a reputable columnist, Dr. Lasisi Olagunju while Commandant Hameed Abodunrin of NSCDC) sponsored Best TV .newscaster of the year ;(Winner; Evelyn Ehiole, W.S Tv), Barrister Dosu Babatunde sponsored, Best Yoruba newscaster of the year.,Winner : Osunwo, Dr.Tope Abiola,Best Grassroots Reporter of the year ;Winner ;Yusuf Oketola( Osun Defender).
Also, Alhaji.Abdul Ganiyu Ola Oluwa, Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs sponsored Best Radio Newscaster of the year ;(Winner ; Olusola Egbodofo).
Other awardees are: Best Radio Reporter of the year; Winner; Lekan Akindoju( Rave F.M), Best T.V Reporter of the year; Winner; Oluchi Amuda, Best Reporter of the year (Print) Winner ; Kazeem Badmus (Osun Defender), Hon. Kolapo Alimi; Best Information Officer of the year; Winner ;Bunmi Badiora( Min.of Info), Dotun Babayemi award for the Best Tv Station, won by Osbc Tv, Late Dr.Tunde Aberefa, Award for Best Cultural Reporter, won by Saheed Adeboje of OSBC, Mallam Olawale Rasheed and Late Sen. Isiaka Adeleke Award, for Best Political reporter, taken by Abdulraheem Adekilekun, Best Investigative Reporter was won by Ayobami Agboola and lastly the Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin Award for Best Environmental Reporter, won by Bunmi Badiora of the Ministry of Information.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the event, chairman of the Council, Mr. Wasiu Ajadosu commended the awardees for their countributions to the growth of journalism and for adding values to its advancement.
He described them as pacesetting journalists who know their onions in the profession and who have at the same time stand tall among his peers to make the profession more virile.
Also honoured with awards of excellence at the occasion were the Ogun state gov Dapo Abiodun, Rave FM CEO, Dr Femi Adefila, Osun State University, Dr Mobolaji Olaoye , Dr SAN Akinwumi Isaac Tope , EHOAN, Southwest President among other prominent Nigerians were honored with award of excellence.Ogun State Governor , Dapo Abiodun
In his speech, the Ogun state governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kayode Akinbade, noted that, the current economic and security challenges informed the concept of the renewed hope mantra of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which according to him signifies a pragmatic approach and sound decision as a way of changing the old order.
According to him,many analysts and experts in political economy have identified major issues and challenges in Nigerian politics, giving particular attention to the evolution of the federal system, aspects of political competition, and the nature of ruling groups.
“They enunciated the links among political demands and incentives, economic strategy, and capitalist development and analysed the evolution of economic policy and performance, looking specifically at the impact of large oil revenues, agrarian policies, and the programme of economic beralisation.
“Other pertinent issues of concern, as indicated by these intellectuals, are the annulment of the presidential elections in 1993 and its adverse effects on Nigeria’s economy and image, coupled with persistent military interference, and the demise of the economic reform programmes.
“Now, considering the obvious trend of economic challenges and the task of assessing the prospects for economic and political change, we must carefully check if we presently have the necessary political leadership with the requisite will and capacity at the centre to allow for effective economic management and more productive use of our oil wealth in the years ahead,” he concluded.
