The Director General of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) Dr Ibrahim Kabir has been commended for his untiring efforts in seeing that the state was kept clean, tidy and habitable at all times.
The commendation was made by the joint leadership of the Christians and Muslims Peace Awareness Foundation for North East and Leaders of Tomorrow during a courtesy visit to the DG in his office late Monday.
According to the leaders of the two organisations who spoke separately, the visit is to commend the Director General and his staff for their efforts in keeping the State clean and healthy as well to also seek the Agency’s collaboration in the areas of sanitation activities and other important engagement, especially in the areas of awareness and sensitisation campaigns in the state
The Chairman, Christians and Muslims peace awareness foundation for North East. Comrade Adamu Yahaya (Motan Kara) said that the group is a peace-building organisation which has been engaged in preaching the need for peaceful coexistence among the two religions and different ethnic groups in the North East and also participates in sanitation activities and other societal development activities.
The Chairman added that the group is also engaged in skills acquisition having trained thousands of women across the Geo-Political zone in detergent and soap making, room freshener, pomade and other household items for self-reliance, requesting the Director General’s support in that regard.
The Chairman, Leaders of Tomorrow in his remarks, said that the group is a voluntary organisation which specialises in sanitation activities and also engages in public awareness of the importance of cleanliness which greatly helps in reducing the outbreak of environmental-related diseases and improving the health conditions of the people in the state.
He also requested for the Agency to involve the group in the monthly sanitation exercise conducted by the end of every month and commended the Director General for the numerous initiatives he introduced in the Agency.
While responding, the Director General welcomed the two organisations to the Agency and expressed his appreciation for the visit, saying that they came at the right time and pledged to work with them in a symbiotic manner for the promotion and improvement of the health of the general public.
To the Christians and Muslims Peace Awareness Foundation for North East, the Director General said that, as a peace-building organisation, their activities are very important and it is only when there is peace, developmental activities will take place, calling on them to maintain the tempo.
He also charged the group to strategize their activities by having special activities that have to do with sanitation and tree planting activities where he promised to organise special training to members for them of the group to effectively carry out the exercise.
To the Leaders of Tomorrow, the Director General commended them for engaging themselves in community service, saying that voluntary organisation like theirs is what the society is in need of.
He promised to involve them among the other uniform voluntary organisations working with the agency in the conduct of the monthly sanitation exercise.
