Following the judgement of the Court of Appeal which sacked three federal lawmakers in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Muftwang has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will do everything possible within the confines of the law to defend the mandate given to the party at all levels.
The Governor in an interview with newsmen at the Yakubu Gowon Airport on his arrival from the United States of America (USA), said the mandates given to the party will be sustained, adding that the recent judgements of Court of Appeal against some National Assembly members of the party from Plateau State was a temporary setback.
Governor Muftwang assured that the circumstances that led to the judgments against the party will be looked into and properly addressed.
“Plateau people who actually voted massively for the PDP are not happy with the judgments. Let me appeal for calm. In a contest, the wind can blow, but that does not mean it will bring you down.
“And I want to assure the people of Plateau State that, by the grace of God, the victory they gave us will be sustained. We have had some setbacks; we will be looking at them in the coming days and seeing what we can do to remedy such a situation. We are on top of the situation; there is no cause for alarm.
“Our confidence in the judiciary has not been broken; we have confidence in the judiciary, which consists of men and women of integrity, that they will do what is right when the time comes,” he assured.
The governor appealed to the people of the state, especially the PDP supporters, to remain patient and calm, adding that the leadership of the party would work together to ensure that its victory at all levels is not taken away.
On his journey to the United States of America, the governor said it was meant to search for potential investors for the state and to build a relationship with the USA and some of the states in the United States of America towards attracting global attention to Plateau State.
The Governor added that during the visit, he attended an agricultural investment conference together with the Vice President of Nigeria, where a discussion was held with the African Development Bank about setting up an agro processing zone on the Plateau, adding that this will be an economic game changer for the state in the long run.
He further mentioned that the state was able to make contact with several institutions of learning in the United States of America that are ready to partner with institutions of learning in Plateau State, both in terms of program exchange and capacity building.
