Appeal Court: My victory reflects aspirations, prayers of constituents – Reps Zubairu

A Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Honorable Abdulmalik Zubairu, who represents Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency in Zamfara state, has hailed his victory at the appeal court as a triumph for democracy. He stated that the court’s judgment reflects the aspirations and prayers of his constituents.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu expressed his gratitude to Allah for his victory, stating, “God, in His wisdom, has made it happen the way it did.” He went on to express appreciation for his constituents, stakeholders, and party supporters for their concern and prayers, and he assured them that he would continue to justify the confidence they have placed in him.

“With the legal matters now resolved, I am committed to focusing entirely on my representation in order to meet the needs of the entire population of my constituency,” he emphasised.

Hon Abdulmalik Zubairu highlighted his accomplishments during his first 100 days in office, which included the execution of several projects and the sponsorship of 22 bills in the green chamber, with many of them progressing through the first and second readings.

The Nigerian Tribune recalled that on Wednesday, the Appeal Court in Abuja dismissed the appeal filed by Shehu Ahmad of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the election of Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu Bungudu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency in Zamfara state.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the Appeal Court upheld the recent judgment of the election tribunal, which affirmed Hon Abdulmalik Zubairu Bungudu’s victory in the 2023 general election in the state.

Following the appeal court’s verdict, Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Auwal Ahmad Nahuche, stated that the appeal was dismissed for lack of merit. He explained that all three judges on the panel agreed that the appeal lacked merit and, as a result, they unanimously dismissed Shehu Ahmad’s PDP appeal.

Barrister Nahuche clarified that Shehu Ahmad of the PDP had approached the appellate court to challenge the judgment of the election tribunal passed on September 6, 2023. Among the appellant’s requests were the declaration of the elections in Maru/Bungudu as inconclusive, allegations of overvoting in 39 polling units, and the inability to conduct elections in 32 other polling units in the constituency.
