Cross River: Mbume clan monarchs demand reinstatement of suspended paramount ruler

CTraditional rulers of the Mbume Bloc of Clan in Etung LGA of Cross River State have renewed their call for the reinstatement of the suspended paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty, Ntue-Atue, Dr. Emmanuel Oru Ojong.

This was made known on Wednesday, in a statement jointly signed by three royal fathers of Mbume clans.

The mornaches who made the call are HRH Ntufam Ojong Tawor Mathew, head of Abia Clan, HRH Ntufam Obase Erim, head of Bendeghe Ekiem community and HRH Ntufam Raphael Ekure Agbor.

The monarchs declared that it was sacrilege to change the paramount ruler when he is still alive.

The monarchs added that the ousted paramount ruler, who was elected in accordance with the laid down norms and values, cannot be overthrown in this manner.

In the resolution reached after a joint session of Mbume blocs of clans (comprising Bendeghe Ekiem, Abia and Etomi communities), and read by HRH, Ntufam Odu Ndep Moses, said: “We appeal to Governor Bassey Otu to expedite the process of reinstatement of the monarch who was reinstated by the Calabar High Court during the administration of Professor Ben Ayade, in accordance with judgement of the High Court of Cross River State, suit No: HC/96/2022, dated March 23,2023.

It was gathered that the suspended Paramount ruler was accused of misappropriating cocoa revenue and subsequently suspended by Governor Ben Ayade’s government.

The Paramount ruler sought reprieve in the state high court and was cleared of wrongdoing, but efforts to reinstate him were stalled by the then administration and subsequent ones.
