Oyo State Government has paid gratuities to retirees who have health challenges from both Local Government service and public primary schools.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Akinola Muraina revealed that the state government under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde always ensured that the welfare of both workers and pensioners is paramount to the present administration in the pacesetter state.
Speaking further, he said the Board deemed it fit to consider payment of some retirees with health challenges that had earlier submitted letters of appeal notifying the authority of the Board, stating with evidence, the nature of their health issues.
According to him, “The state government understands the plight of retirees, having served the government with all their strength. So, the selection was on merit based on the available funds.
“Meanwhile, we have payrolled those that retired with all necessary documents approved in September and October.”
In their separate responses, Mr Muniru Akinosun, a local government retiree, Mr Matthew Oyeniyi and Mrs Oke Bosede Adebunmi retired teachers who spoke on behalf of all the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the state governor for the payment of their gratuity so that they will be able to use the money for their medical treatment.
Present at the occasion were the branch LG chairmen of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, all the Directors and Desk Officers, and host of other dignitaries.
