The Senator representing Jigawa Southeast Senatorial District in Jigawa State, Senator Mustapha Khabib, attributed his absence from his constituency to distractions caused by a court case that lasted for five months.
The senator revealed this while answering questions from the news media in Dutse. He was responding to the recent judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which upheld his election victory.
Senator Mustapha Khabib explained, “The situation was very taxing and distracting, which took up a significant portion of my attention for a good five months.”
He continued, “I’m grateful to Almighty God because, in His infinite mercy, He confirmed what was initially confirmed. God affirmed my victory at the polls. My opponent, the candidate of the APC, didn’t accept the result and believed that I was not properly elected. He took the case to the election tribunal, where my election was upheld. Still, he didn’t believe in that decision and appealed. The appeal upheld what the tribunal had previously ruled.”
“I just concluded my court case last Wednesday. You don’t know what it means until you go through it. But I thank Almighty God for His mercy and blessings, and now I’m free. I assure you and my constituents that they will see a positive change.”
He stated, “My constituents elected me to represent them in the Nigerian Senate. Now that the case has come to an end, I will focus my attention on improving the lives of people at the National Assembly.”
“My priorities include improving the lives of my people by providing good and affordable healthcare services, better roads, clean and potable drinking water, and other essential services.”
The senator emphasized, “Although there may not be much to accomplish this year, as everything is a carryover from last year and it’s an election year, any major projects will be in the next year’s budget. While we have been doing some work, people will soon witness remarkable improvements in the next budget.”
