The Court of Appeal has affirmed the re-election of Mr. Dennis Idahosa of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives for Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State.
The appellant court agreed with the National Assembly Petitions Tribunal, which earlier dismissed the petition filed by Omosede Igbinedion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and that of the Labour Party (LP), Mrs Epelle Osayuki challenging Idahosa’s victory at the February 25, 2023, National Assembly elections.
Reacting to Saturday’s judgement, Idahosa said that by the outcome of the judgment, it had been affirmed that the people of Ovia Federal Constituency would no longer allow anyone, under any guise, to supercede over their affairs without their mandate.
In a statement endorsed by his media aide, Mr Friday Aghedo, the lawmaker noted that he was never disturbed by the petition since he knew full well that the people had their mandate freely given to him.
Referring to the book of Lamentation 3:36-37, Idahosa pointed out that the evil plans hatched by the enemies of Ovia came to nothing because it was against the wish of the people.
“The people have seen the difference in the federal constituency in the past four years and I, Idahosa, have sworn to uphold this mandate that will enable me to continually serve the people
“The victory is not mine alone to be celebrated, ultimately, the biggest beneficiaries of this victory remain the people of Ovia Federal Constituency,” he enthused.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos had on Saturday upheld the Tribunal judgment that affirmed the victory of Idahosa in the February 25 National Assembly elections.
