In pursuit of strengthening democracy and good governance in the country, the National Assembly in conjunction with Green Mount Consulting Limited (GMCL) will on Monday flag off a two-day workshop for heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) in a bid to emphasise the imperative of legislative compliance.
The GMCL Managing Partner, Alhaji Mohammed Aminu, who disclosed this in a statement made available to Parliamentary Correspondents in Abuja, explained that the workshop was aimed at ensuring accountable and transparent government for the benefit of Nigerian Citizens.
According to him, the workshop with the theme: ‘The imperative of legislative compliance in deepening democracy and enhancing good governance,’ is scheduled for 7th and 8th November, 2023.
“In recent times, there has been growing concern about the non-compliance of MDAs with resolutions passed by the Nigeria Senate and the House of Representatives.
“To address this issue, it is essential to engage in constructive dialogue and find effective solutions that will ensure the alignment of government actions with legislative decisions.
“This two-day workshop will serve as a platform for comprehensive discussions, knowledge sharing, and the formulation of practical strategies to promote legislative compliance.
“Several distinguished guests will be in attendance, including the Senate President, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“Others include the National Security Adviser, the Comptroller General of Customs, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, among others.
“The workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including the legal framework governing legislative compliance, the roles and responsibilities of various government entities, and case studies highlighting successful compliance initiatives.
“Through panel discussions, expert presentations, and interactive sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of legislative compliance in strengthening democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
“The workshop will serve as a turning point in addressing the issues related to legislative compliance in Nigeria.
“It will bring together key stakeholders, government officials, experts, and thought leaders, thereby fostering a collaborative environment that will lead to actionable recommendations and meaningful reforms.
“The imperative of legislative compliance can not be overstated, as it is fundamental to the democratic process and the realization of good governance.
“The workshop will contribute to a more accountable and transparent government, ultimately benefiting the people of Nigeria.
“The outcome of the workshop will enable heads of MDAs to work towards a Nigeria where legislative compliance plays a pivotal role in shaping our nation’s future,” he said.
