Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun has stressed the need for a technology-driven economy, describing it as a way out of the multifaceted challenges the nation is confronted with.
Oba Balogun made this known while receiving members of the National Association of Technologists in Engineering led by Rt. Hon. Dominic Udoatan on a courtesy visit at his Alarere residence on Tuesday.
He advocated more budgetary allocation for the engineering sectors, arguing that developed countries place high premiums on the sector.
Oba Balogun stated that for the country to attain her rightful place in the comity of states, the leadership must seek technological advancement as a must.
“China and other developed nations are where they are today because they are exporting the products of their technologies to the rest of the world,” he said.
Oba Balogun, therefore, assured members of NATE his support in achieving their set goals as well as exporting the country to the world.
Earlier in his address, the National President of the Association, Rt. Hon. Udoatan lauded the contribution of the monarch to the development of Ibadanland.
He admitted that Ibadan is one of the peaceful cities in the country, attributing to thriving commerce in the land.
“I have spent two nights in Ibadan. From my findings, I am bold to say that the land is secured and clean. The credit must go to Kabiyesi and the entire members of his council.
“We have different ethnic groups in Ibadan. The ethnic groups have been cohabiting without any rancour.
“NATE has made the right decision in its choice of Ibadan as the venue for its 39th Conference and Annual General Meeting which will kick off on Thursday.
“We will be glad to have His Royal Majesty, Oba Balogun in attendance,” he added.
