As part of efforts to leverage the pain suffered by residents of the Kebbe local government area of Sokoto State over the amount of disaster meted out against them by the bandits, the National Emergency Management Agency, in collaboration with the Sokoto Emergency Management Agency, flagged off the distribution of food and non-food items to the victims of the 2023 flood in the state on Tuesday.
This is contained in a statement signed and made available to the newsmen by the state information officer, SEMA, Abubakar Abdullahi, on Wednesday.
SEMA Special Adviser, Nasiru Garba Kalambaina, who was represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation of the agency, Mustapha Umar, urged the beneficiaries to make use of the items judiciously.
While speaking in his remarks before the flag-off, the sole administrator, Kebbe LGA, used the medium to thank and commend Sokoto SEMA for the quick facilitation of items brought to them by the NEMA.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the newsmen commend NEMA and the Sokoto State Government for the timely arrival of the items given to them.
Meanwhile, SEMA and NEMA, the Sokoto operation office, also jointly assessed the situation of banditry incidence that led to the displacement of various communities in Sangi ward, Ungushi ward, Girkau ward, Kebbe West, and Margai ward of Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State.
During the assessment, the joint team discovered that over 200 households were affected by the banditry incidence, and many of them were said to have been killed by the bandits.
Speaking during the inspection, the Kebbe LGA sole administrator, Hon. Sanusi Abubakar Kebbe, commends the joint team for coming to assess the situation.
In his remarks, SEMA’s Director of Relief and Rehabilitation sympathised with the affected communities on behalf of the Sokoto State Government and assured them that after the assessment, a report would be compiled by both NEMA and SEMA with a view to forwarding it to the appropriate concerned authorities for further necessary actions.
The assessment was witnessed and also coordinated by the Director of Finance of the Agency, Alhaji Kabiru Garba, while the NEMA Sokoto head of operations was represented by Amìnu Ambursa.
