Ahead of the Saturday Kogi Governorship election, the Nigeria Red Cross (NRC) has deployed 90 first aid teams to all 21 local government areas in Kogi State as part of its efforts to take care of emergency cases during the election.
The Kogi State NRC Branch Secretary, Comrade Danjuma Ahmed Usman, who disclosed this on Thursday in Lokoja, said the deployed 90 Emergency First Aid Teams have been instructed to take care of the elderly, physically challenged, and any other emergency situation on election day.
According to him, the move is part of the activities in preparation for a response in case there is a crisis during the election.

He said the members of the teams are mostly volunteers who have been equipped with lifesaving techniques, the administration of first aid, and the evacuation of victims to health facilities.
Usman said the teams are spread across the state, saying that the teams are comprised of 15 volunteers in six groups.

300 metres away from polling units, saying that they are ready to promptly respond to emergencies in any part of the state.
Usman said the NRC had identified flash points ahead of the election, saying that adequate preparations have been in place to cover the flash points.
The NRC Branch Secretary said the organisation had before this time carried out advocacy’s to Nigerian police, DSS, media, the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, and some selected health facilities.
He said the purpose was for the hospitals to treat victims of major injuries.
“The media engagement is to let the world know what we are doing before, during, and after this election.
“The success of this election lies in the hands of all the actors if they play their part properly.
“We have sensitised our youths to some of the electoral violations and that they should not be used to disrupt the election,” he said.
He then appealed to political parties, candidates, and supporters to allow for a peaceful conduct of the election.
