Sokoto State government has commenced the distribution of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs), anti-malarial drugs and fumigation exercises at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
The exercise was inaugurated by Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Gobir, at Ramin Kura IDP camp in Sokoto North local government area of Sokoto state on Saturday.
The deputy governor urged residents of IDPs to consider the condition as destiny stressing that the present administration had put in place proactive measures to ensure that they return to their respective settlements and engage in normal livelihood activities.
He noted that Gov. Ahmad Aliyu’s administration has been committed to ensuring improvement in the citizens’ well-being in all sectors, the reason why it initiated a 9-point agenda that comprised the provision of standard healthcare, education and others.
According to him, the measure is targeted at reversing the neglected conditions of people and the environment left behind by the previous government which was due to poor approaches.
He presented 30 bags of rice and maize to IDP residents, Gobir reassured continued support to less privileged persons and other vulnerable persons across the state.
Speaking in her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Hajia Asabe Balarabe, said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that IDPs were considered in all government activities and feel belong to the community.
Balarabe said the state government had lined up activities to safeguard people’s lives especially dengue fever which shared some symptoms with malaria.
She commended community groups, donor agencies and government institutions on their support and enjoined them to continue their support in recognition of promoting healthy individuals in the country.
