Youth coalition hails Bauchi Gov as Appeal Court affirms re-election

A coalition of youth groups known as Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Vanguard (BAM-V) has said that Friday’s verdict of the Appeal Court upholding the judgement of the Bauchi Governorship Election Petition Petition that upheld the reelection of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as the validly elected Governor of the state is a confirmation of the votes of the people of the state for good governance and progress.

This is as the group called on the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State and its gubernatorial candidate in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the state, Ambassador Saddique Baba Abubakar, to accept the verdict of the Appeal Court and join hands with Governor Mohammed in taking the state to greater heights.

Reacting to the appellate court judgement, through a press release signed by BAM-V Director-General, Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, made available to Tribune Online in Abuja, the group stated that as a reward for his hard work in elevating the state, the people of Bauchi State overwhelmingly voted for Governor Mohammed in the March 18, 2023 governorship poll.

The group described the Appeal Court’s dismissal of the appeal filed by APC and its candidate as nothing but confirmation of the people’s verdict at the poll.

BAM-V stated that the overwhelming votes of the electorate in the state were a reward for Governor Mohammed’s craftsmanship in good governance, progress, and development seen in the last four years of his stewardship in the state.

It asserted that Bauchi State has never seen the level of development it is witnessing now since May 29, 2019, when Governor Mohammed assumed the mantle of leadership in the state.

The Appeal Court verdict, according to the group, was not only a well-deserved victory for the governor, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, but also substantial justice to the people of Bauchi State, who freely gave the governor their mandate through the ballot on March 18.

The group submitted that the saying that the judiciary was the last hope of the common man was not a mere saying, as the judgement of both the tribunal and appellate court showed that the wish, hope, and desire of the people of Bauchi State for continuous development of the state, which made them vote for Governor Mohammed en masse for a second term in office, did not go to nothing.

“Bauchi State lagged in development for too long before Governor Bala Mohammed came onboard on May 29, 2019. During his first tenure, the governor was able to change the narratives with the level of unprecedented development he brought to the state, making Bauchi State a source of pride for all.

“The state as of today can stand shoulder to shoulder with its peers in terms of development in all sectors, including education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and good governance, among others.

“The fact that the people of the state acknowledged Governor Bala Mohammed’s giant strides in Bauchi State within four years of his first term made them vote massively for the governor in the March 18 governorship poll for him to continue with his progressive governance aimed at further improving the fortunes of Bauchi State.

“BAM-V is not only happy that both the Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court affirmed the mandate freely given to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Kauran Bauchi, on March 18, 2023, but also observed that the judgements from both courts are affirmations of the people’s choice of the governor to run the affairs of Bauchi State for the next four years,” Comrade Jibo stated.

The BAM-V DG, however, called on the opposition in Bauchi State to encourage their supporters to maintain the peace being enjoyed in the state and avoid anything that could lead to disturbance in any part of the state.

“We, the Executive Members of BAM-V at the National Headquarters, and members join peace-loving people across Nigeria to appeal to the opposition and all people of Bauchi State to avoid fomenting trouble in the wake of the Appeal Court judgement in any parts of the state.

“It is a fact that Bauchi State is one of the safest states in Nigeria today, and this must be encouraged to continue by all. There can never be any meaningful development in a state of chaos. In view of this, let us all join hands with the administration of Governor Mohammed to maintain peace for development and progress,” the BAM-V DG appealed.

The group then congratulated Governor Mohammed for the victory at the Court of Appeal, asserting that the victory clearly shows that the Governor won convincingly and deservingly at the polls.

It further described the governor’s success as not a fluke but a God-given mandate, having worked hard through his outstanding performance and good governance to deserve a second term in office.

“Your Excellency, your victory at the Court of Appeal, coming on the heels of your triumph at the March 18 poll and victory at the tribunal, is not a happenstance to us at BAM-V National Headquarters.

It is only a confirmation of the people’s mandate as given to you by the good people of Bauchi State for your astuteness, sagacity, acceptability, and good governance, through which you have brought unprecedented development to the state since May 29, 2019, when you assumed office as the Executive Governor of Bauchi State.

“We strongly believe that you are aware of the fact that to whom much is given, much is expected of him. The affirmation of your victory at the polls by both the tribunal and appeals court is a further clarion call that you have to continue to work hard for the betterment of Bauchi State and its people, as well as of Nigeria in general,” the group stated.
