Following the affirmation of the electoral victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Court of Appeal on Friday, former Super Eagles international, Sam Sodje has appealed to Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others to team up with the governor to move the state forward.
The appeal was made on Friday shortly after the Appeal Court verdict in Lagos affirming the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the March 18 governorship election in the state.
Sodje, in a statement made available to journalists in Warri, felicitated Governor Oborevwori on his victory, saying the ruling wasn’t a surprise to Deltans, whom he averred, voted overwhelmingly for him.
“This afternoon’s firm judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal in the case involving the APC and the PDP regarding the authentic winner of the last governorship elections in Delta State has not come as surprise to me or in fact, to any well meaning Deltan in particular or Nigerian in general.
“The collated results from the last governorship elections in Delta State was a true affirmation of the true dominance of the PDP in every constituency in the state, therefore to think that the Court of Appeals would, without any further evidence from those that were presented at tribunal, come to a different conclusion is nothing but asking for a comprehensive rascality on the part of our judiciary.
“It’s generally agreed that courts are not father Christmas that would give out free judgements without proper evidence that warrant such judgments.
“Deltans of all walks of life came out hugely to vote for the PDP, the governor’s political party, thus to request the courts to go against the wishes of the people as being pursued by the APC is nothing, but living in a dream land.
“Deltans spoke clearly with their votes during the elections as such all political gladiators should, for the sake of the goodness and welfare of the our dear state, come together and work with our hard-working governor to deliver on the MORE Agenda.
“Notwithstanding, the right of the APC to appeal this Court of Appeal judgement to the Supreme Court, it is my humble request and appeal that we should allow sleeping dogs to be so as to further avoid distracting His Excellency from delivery on his election promises for the welfare and development of our dear state.
“We cannot all be winners all the time. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose.
“This is not a victory just for you but a victory for all deltans, democracy, the judiciary and a further clear mandate for you to deliver on your election promises.
“The task ahead is huge, therefore, no one would or should envy you. Deltans are waiting for the promised much awaited dividends of democracy,” the former Readings FC player enthused.
