Ondo House of Assembly has commended President Bola Tinubu over his intervention in the political crisis in the state, saying the intervention saved the state from a political impasse that would have had major effects on the polity
Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Chairman House Committee on Information, Mr Olatunji Oshati, expressed satisfaction over last Friday’s meeting called to put an end to the lingering political crisis in the state.
According to Oshati, the President had done well by intervening in the crisis to ensure all the parties involved agreed to maintain status quo, in order to allow peace to reign.
He said, “We just have to thank God, the most important thing is peace, and it is a win-win situation, so it’s not as if a particular person has won, the president has designed that it is a win-win situation, we give it to him as that is a kind of wisdom we expect from our leaders.
“The state will be calmed now and we beg our people to go on with their normal activities and let things move forward, because even in the House we have a lot of things to do, we have budget defend and many more, so we thank God that this is over, and we will move on. Let the deputy governor remains the deputy governor and the governor remains a governor.”
But the opposition party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday said despite the intervention of President Tinubu in the political impasse within the ruling party in the state, the siege is still not over yet.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kennedy Peretei, who noted that the camps of the two political gladiators interpreted the resolution to suit them
There have been conflicting reports as resolutions of the Presidential parley at the instance of President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political impasse that has plagued Ondo State for a better part of this year.
Both Rotimi Akeredolu and his embattled Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s camps interpreted the resolutions as being in their favor, saying “It is not yet Uhuru, the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over.
Peretei stated: “Again, major stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC), leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly and Ondo State Government were at the Villa to iron out their intractable differences.
“From what we have read about the outcome, Tinubu’s intervention is a mere window dressing.
“Out of respect for his office, the impeachment of the Deputy Governor will no longer see daylight, but as long as Akeredolu remains in hiding, it is not yet Uhuru, the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over”
He noted that “Mrs Betty Akeredolu celebrated the resolutions on her verified X-handle as “Hottest Breafast to last everybody till 2025”. To Aiyedatiwa’s supporters, their worries about impeachment are over.
“Let us pray that the Presidential intervention will not go the way of the Bello Masari Reconciliation Committee set up by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
“After several trips to Abuja at taxpayers’ expense, both parties returned to Court despite promises to withdraw all cases”
