National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed a total of 1,820 corps members to Plateau State for 2023 Batch C Stream II for their one mandatory service.
The new corps members, however, took the oath of allegiance on Tuesday as they commenced three weeks of orientation training.
In her address, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Ikupolati Tosin, who disclosed this on the occasion of the swearing-in ceremony, assured the corps members that the government and good people of Plateau State have always made the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of corps members a priority.
The State Coordinator said in this regard that all necessary measures were already adequately outlined for the hassle-free orientation course and service year ahead.
She noted that the corps members have already adjusted to the regimented camp life and have exhibited a high sense of discipline, unparallel comportment, as well as strict adherence to the rules and regulations guiding the orientation course.
In his address, Governor Caleb Muftwang, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sport and Youth Development, Mrs. Rebecca Shaseet, tasked the corps members to exhibit mutual understanding and a cordial working relationship to further buttress the core values of the scheme.
He pointed out that, as a unifying program, the aim of the scheme was to bring together young Nigerians from varying cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds to promote the integrity of Nigeria as one united, indivisible entity, adding that the objectives over the years have been successfully implemented.
“This achievement has also made the scheme a viable tool for the implementation of critical national development programs. The NYSC call-up is a clarion call to selfless service and personal sacrifice. This swearing in ushers you into a new phase of duty and service to your fatherland,” he advised.
The Governor commended the NYSC management for inserting skills acquisition training and other youth empowerment programs into the orientation timetable and charged the corps members to fully participate in the programs and draw maximum benefits.
He implored them to maintain discipline decorum in camp and participate vigorously in all activities of the orientation program, and he cautioned them not to indulge in negative vices that would deter them from achieving their desired set goals.
