The Chairperson, Police Officers’ Wives Association, Niger State Chapter, Mrs Rosina Shawulu Danmamman has conveyed her maiden POWA familiarisation congress on Saturday 2nd December 2023 at Police Officers’ Mess Minna
The meeting commenced at about 1140hrs, while the Chairperson was welcomed to the meeting with a cheerful song by the large turnout of the POWA members.
During her remarks, the Chairperson welcomed members to the meeting, and appreciated their large turnout, to have come out from far and near to receive her to the Niger State Chapter of POWA.
She noted that during introduction, she observed that majority of the members had something to do in terms of job, which is a thing of joy that they were engaged in businesses, trading, civil service among others.
Mrs. Danmamman expressed satisfaction with the turnout of members and reiterated that POWA is an association formed for the improvement of members’ welfare, saying that it is meant to develop Police Officers’ wives, children, and to support their husbands.
She asserted that she had earlier met the executives, and enquired about Christmas packages for members, as Christmas is around the corner, just as she promised the members better welfare adding that she is working with the Commissioner of Police to ensure availability of funds for members welfare on a yearly basis.
She stated that POWA is meant to help members and it must be beneficial to them under her watch, while she encouraged members to help and support their husbands adequately to succeed in the line of duty, by ensuring peace of mind for their husbands to concentrate at work.
She urged members to keep the home front and should not give their husbands stress.
She said members should be up and doing to keep the home growing. Mrs Rosina encouraged members to rent POWA shops as there are considerations for members.
She however frowned at the act of renting/leasing POWA shops to non-members, while she discouraged members from renting outside shops and patronising POWA shops which are available at subside rates for members.
The POWA Chairperson later directed exco members to ensure availability of POWA accoutrements for members who are yet to acquire it, while she said that the association will do everything possible to ensure that members are provided with the accoutrements.
She sensitised members on mode of dressing of POWA uniform, and emphasised on women empowerment, such as skill acquisition programmes, as she noted that the association must key into poverty alleviation programs of the government.
She promised to partner with the state government effectively.
Mrs Rosina asserted that widows of late Policemen and wives of retired police personnel should not be forgotten and must be carried along in the POWA social schemes. She said that the State Chapter has been directed by the National President of POWA on necessary steps for the widows.
She said government enterprises and empowerment programs will be vigorously pursued to empower widows, members and wives of retired personnel.
Finally, she said there should be POWA/Children Christmas party for members at the instance of the Police Command. She promised to revive this and that she would engage the Command for Christmas and Easter Party.
