The immediate past General Secretary of the pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, said the removal of universities from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) is a perfect strategy to tackle the brain drain crisis in the country’s education sector.
Arogbofa, who stated this while speaking in Akure on Thursday, noted that the removal of the universities from the IPPIS will give room for more flexibility and autonomy.
He said the development will also help the universities attract and retain highly qualified academics, and he expressed confidence that the move would not only help stem the brain-drain crisis but would also address the grievances of university staff across the country.
He, however, commended the Federal Government for the removal of the universities from the platform, saying the education sector has particularly suffered as talented academics have sought opportunities abroad.
He said, “While appreciating the government, the vice chancellors too should be very careful. They should not mess up the system. It must not be abused because some of them were abusing it.
“Even at the meetings of Pro-Chancellors in those days, some issues like that were raised. The purpose of autonomy must not be ridiculed.”

“The removal of universities from IPPIS will provide more flexibility and autonomy in managing the payroll system.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) said on Wednesday, through the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, that public tertiary institutions had been removed from IPPIS.
