Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian activist and founder of Sahara Reporters, has spoken out against the government’s proposed fuel price hike, calling it “unfair” and “devastating” to Nigerian families.
He stated this via his verified X handle on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2023.
He argued that the N30,000 minimum wage is already insufficient to cover basic living expenses, and that the increase will make it even harder for families to afford food, transportation, and medical care.
He also noted that the leaders supporting the hike are living lavish lifestyles while many Nigerians struggle to get by.
He called on the people to resist the hike, and to demand better treatment from their leaders.
Sowore wrote, ”I am asking again and again, how do persons (Nigerians) receiving NGN30,000 live on that? How would they pay transportation to work or anywhere with N30, 000 per month and then feed, buy medicine and pay children school fees ? How could people even survive under these conditions? These wicked leaders who are living large on your backs must be offloaded! #RevolutionNow ORGANIZE, DO NOT AGONIZE ANYMORE!”
