Edo guber: Igueben PDP leaders endorse Ighodalo

After two prominent PDP aspirants withdrew from the Edo governorship race to endorse him, the local party leadership in Igueben came together at the residence of one of the chieftains of the party, Hon Felix Omi Imuesili, to officially endorse Barr. Asue Ighodalo.

During the gathering, former PDP members who had left the party before the 2023 general election were welcomed back into the fold.

In his address at the event, Hon Imuesili expressed confidence that Ighodalo would bring unity and harmony to the party.

Speaking at the gathering, Sen. Clifford Odia described Ighodalo as a true indigene of the area and expressed his pride in supporting him, citing his exceptional competence as a candidate.

He urged party members to rally behind Barr. Ighodalo, asserting that doing so would ensure victory for the party in the upcoming elections.

The motion to endorse Ighodalo was proposed by the PDP Igueben LG publicity secretary, Amos Uwidia, and seconded by the House of Assembly member representing Igueben, Hon. Ojei Inegebor.

In his thank you speech, Ighodalo expressed humility and pledged to address the challenges facing Igueben if elected governor, including issues concerning the college of education, infrastructure, and security.

He called for party members to unite behind the party’s eventual candidate and reiterated his belief that a united PDP, supported by the community and fielding the right candidate, would be unbeatable.

Ighodalo promised to be a faithful representative of the people’s interests and emphasised his commitment to improving road conditions, promoting business and employment opportunities, addressing security issues, and ensuring access to vital resources such as water, education, healthcare, and electricity.

Notable attendees at the gathering included the Iyasele of Igueben kingdom, other traditional rulers, Senator Clifford Odia, PDP LGA and ward executives from the ten wards, party chieftain Barr. Anthony Ehilebo, and Arc. Targius Irabor, a former PDP state youth leader and House of Assembly aspirant.

With this endorsement, Ighodalo now has the support of two local governments in Edo State. Earlier, Uromi PDP leaders, as well as LGA and ward executives, endorsed his candidacy at Chief Tony Anenih’s residence on December 28, 2023.

While the PDP governorship primaries are scheduled for February 22, 2024, Ighodalo is set to officially declare his guber ambition on January 12th in Benin.
