The Niger State Government has organised an induction retreat towards enhancing, improving, and orienting the state members of the Executive Council, which are Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Political Appointees, in the New Niger Agenda.
The State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago, explained that the New Niger Agenda of the incumbent administration is geared towards impacting and developing the state’s current status into a world-class sub-national government.
The Deputy Governor reading the Governor’s speech asserted with the theme “Panacea for Sustainable Development of Niger State,” held at the Royal Institute, Abuja-Kaduna Road in Tafa, LGA of the state, on Monday, January 8, 2024.
The Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, stated further that the administration of Governor Muhammed Umaru Umar Bago has rolled out plans towards greater New Niger State that create opportunities, employment, and infrastructure development for the state, highlighting that the New Niger Agenda is transforming the state economy into a green and eco-friendly subnational entity.
He emphasised that the New Niger Agenda is a progressive approach to changing the old ways of doing things to new ways of making things done, saying, “The induction is to shape our future for an enduring legacy and prosperity.”.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu, charged members of the State Executive Council to be above board and key into the New Niger Agenda, stressing, “that the agenda is earmarked to propel the state as a top 10 subnational government in Nigeria, maintaining that the state’s New Niger is Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago-led’ administration’s policy direction”.
In his presentation submission, the Lead Resource Person of the Retreat, Professor Muhammed Kuta Yahaya, said the induction of the State Executive Council members, Permanent Secretaries, and political appointees is a strategic inclusion in governance and leadership orientation, pointing out that Governor Muhammed ad Umaru Bago’s vision and mission are good governance and urban renewal development (GUD).
Meanwhile, the Head of Service of Niger State, Abubakar Salisu, advised the State Government to resuscitate and reactivate the Strategic Operation Office SOU, domiciled in the Governor’s Office, to improve efficiency in governance and charged the Retreat to come up with due diligence recommendations that will assist the government in carrying out its activities diligently and effectively.
During the retreat, some of the highlights are technical and brainstorming sessions. The retreat will last from January 7th to January 13th, 2024.
