JUST 48 hours after he secured victory at the Supreme Court, the Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resolved to establish the Kano Elders Council (KEC), to comprise three former governors: Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to serve as an advisory body to the state government.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
“Kano State has been blessed by Allah, with numerous elders and former leaders who have achieved the pinnacle of their careers and continue to be active and healthy,” he stated.
Also, the council will include the leadership of the Ulamas, the business community, the traditional rulers, former heads of security agencies from Kano State, and other distinguished elders to be identified and appointed by the government.
Yusuf emphasised that the elders possessed knowledge, wisdom, and experience his administration will deliberately seek to harness.
He added that the date for the inauguration of the council will be determined shortly.
Meanwhile, the Kano State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna,, has described as divine his loss at the Supreme Court of his bid to become the governor of the state.
This is just as Gawuna extended well wishes to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressing the hope that he becomes a just leader for all Kano residents.
The APC candidate had embarked on a rigorous legal battle against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) after the March 2023 election.
Gawuna witnessed the Supreme Court last Friday judgment confirming Yusuf as the duly elected governor of the state.
It should be recalled that the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court had nullified Abba’s governorship due to allegations of malpractices before the Supreme Court overturned the judgments.
Speaking on the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) programme monitored in Kano on Sunday, Gawuna expressed his acceptance of the Supreme Court judgment, attributing it to God’s will, even as he emphasized his commitment to the path of justice.
“This judgment is God’s decision, and we have accepted it.”
“As we prayed that if it is good for us, let Him grant us from His bounty, and if it is otherwise, he would replace it with something better. We are very sure that God has answered our prayers. He is all-wise. We are thankful to Allah, the Almighty,” the APC candidate said.
Gawuna, while affirming his trust in God’s plans for the future, urged everyone to recognise the role of divine decisions in their lives.
He encouraged his supporters to comprehend the divine aspect of the decision and called for calmness and acceptance of God’s will, emphasising the importance of leaders acknowledging the outcomes of legal processes and fostering unity.
Gawuna enjoined the people to pray for peace in the state and Nigeria as a whole, just as he emphasized the need for moral upbringing and continued prayers.
Gawuna highlighted the significance of respecting legal outcomes and underscored the comprehensive nature of Islamic religion as a guide for life, while reiterating the place of prayers for divine guidance and grace.
