Edo guber: Ogbeide-Ihama promises to partner FG, fix roads, if elected

The former lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency and governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, has said he would collaborate with the Federal Government to fix federal roads in the state if elected governor.

He gave the assurance on Friday while meeting with the leaders and members of the party in Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts of the state.

Ogbeide-Ihama noted that with good human relationships and understanding, particularly with the Federal Government, fixing the federal roads across the state would be possible.

He said: “We know the problems across the state. I can see the bad roads leading to this place (Edo North). The roads may be federal roads, but Federal Government and state governments can collaborate.

“When you understand human relationships, you will never have a problem with the federal government. We will build our inner roads. We will collaborate with the Federal Government. We understand erosion and the damage it has caused in our state.

“I was in the House of Representatives. I brought modern schools. I renovated schools. Everything was not from my pocket. I was collaborating with the federal government and concerned authorities to do all that.

“When you understand human relationships, you will not have problems with politicians that help you. When you understand human relationships, you will not have problems with traditional institutions in the state.

“I don’t have human relationship issues. I will work for you, I will develop our state. We know the water problem in Edo North. We know the problem in Edo Central and south.

“We know where agriculture will work. we know where technical work is. We know where we need. That thing that I did in Oredo federal Constituency that the people to start calling names like ‘star boy’, and ‘jinx breaker’, that is the same thing I want to do in Edo State.

“I am different from I will do, mine is ‘I have done and I want to do more. I am appealing to you to remember where we are coming from so that we will know where we are going.

“I am offering myself in 2024 to be that Governor that will work for you, it is because I have shown that I have worked before. I have done it before in Benin, and I am ready to do it in Edo State.

“I can feel your pains because all of us have been in this struggle together. I cannot be part of a system for eight years and say it’s when I become governor that I will do well. Nobody should come and reap where he did not sow.”

He thanked the PDP members for their steadfastness over the years, despite their suffering, and assured them that their sufferings would soon be a thing of the past if elected as the governor of Edo.

While maintaining that power belongs to God and it is Him only that gives it to who He deems fit, the guber aspirant appealed to the party leaders in the two Senatorial zones to nominate him as the PDP flag bearer so he can win the main election for the PDP.

Speaking for the leaders of the party in Edo North, Mr. Duru Yusuf, said Ogbeide-Ihama is the only homeboy that they know, assuring that PDP leaders and members of the zone are solidly behind his governorship aspiration.

On his part, the Senatorial Caucus and PDP Chairman in Edo Central, Archbishop Anthony Okosun, while welcoming the aspirant, said they will take the message to the people.

He, however, appealed to Ogbeide-Ihama to help unify the two factions in the party in order to have a formidable force in the election.
