The House of Representatives is expected to commence debate on the general principles of a bill for the regulatory body organ harvesting, transplanting and donations and amongst other related matters.
The private member bill which was sponsored by Hon. Sada Soli has been gazetted for Second Reading on Thursday, 1st February, 2024.
In the same vein, the House is expected to commence debate on the general principles of a Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act, 2022 and for related Matters, sponsored by Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Hon.
Francis Waive.
Other bills scheduled for debate at Second Reading is a Bill for an Act to amend the Professional Bodies (Special Provision) Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to include Nigerians and 3% charges from all Fees paid to Professionals listed in this Act by Public and Corporate organizations and Remit same to the Professional Bodies Association.
Some of the Motions listed on the Notice Paper made available to Members and Parliamentary Correspondents include: ‘Need to investigate the disproportionate distribution of electricity supply to Residents of Kebbi State’; ‘Need for drastic action against health facilities refusing treatment of accident or gunshot Patients without Police reports’; and ‘Need to Investigate Breach of Community Social Responsibility, Degradation of the natural ecosystem and Environment of Irri Kingdom of Isoko South LGA of Delta State and the violation of the Petroleum Industry Act by Nigerian AGIP Oil Company Limited (NAOC)’.
After the opening remarks by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday plenary, the House is expected to commence debate on the general principles of a Bill for an Act to amend the Criminal Code Act, 2004 to provide stiffer penalties to selected Sections of the Act and for related matters.
Other motions scheduled for the legislative day include: ‘Need to investigate sharp practices by Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Parastatals and Institutions of Federal Government in the execution of capital projects contained in the Appropriation Act’; ‘Need to investigate the National Identity Cards released from 2012 to date’; ‘Need to award contract for the construction of Akwanga – Jos – Bauchi – Gombe Road’; ‘Non-implementation of global best practices in the National Policy of Education’ as well as ‘Need to check the abuse of the use of Siren on Nigeria’s Roads’.
During Wednesday plenary, the House is expected to commence debate on the general principles of: ‘A Bill for an Act to establish Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organizations Agency for the promotion of Social Development Activities in Nigeria’; ‘A Bill for an Act to repeal the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Act, 2010 and enact the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Act to Establish Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and provide for legal framework, structures and programmes for the strengthening of Nigerian Content in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry’, amongst others.
Some of the Motions to be considered include: ‘Need to Investigate the Decline Infrastructure of the Federal Capital Territory’; ‘Need to ensure Standardization of the Uniform of the Nigerian Police Force’; ‘Need for commodification and diversification of Nigeria’s economy through Agriculture’; ‘Need to regulate and investigate complaints of fraud against Financial Technology (FINTECH) Companies operating in Nigeria by Users of various FINTECH platforms’; and ‘Need to streamline inspection activities in Nigerian Ports for effective and timely export of Nigerian Agricultural produce.’
