Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, on Wednesday assured the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of the state government’s maximum cooperation in fighting and preventing corruption in Nigeria.
The governor gave assurance when ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu SAN, led the management team of the anti-corruption commission on a courtesy call to the governor at the Government House, Kano.
Welcoming the ICPC delegation, Governor Yusuf, who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, expressed delight that Kano State was the first state to be visited by the chairman since his assumption of office.
A news release signed by ICPC spokesperson, Mrs Azuka Ogugua, made available to Tribune Online in Abuja, informed that the governor commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Dr Aliyu, describing the appointment as a testament of the chairman’s pedigree and undiluted commitment to the Nigerian project.
Yusuf informed that his administration had zero tolerance for corruption. This, he said, was sacrosanct.
The governor added that since coming onboard, the administration had prioritised a preventive approach to tackling corruption in the state.
According to him, “It may interest the ICPC management to know that my administration’s zero tolerance on corruption and related tendencies remain sacrosanct.
“Thus in ensuring the successful implementation of this government’s anti-corruption policies, I prioritized a preventive approach without compromising the existing curative mechanisms in the state’s Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).”
Speaking earlier, Dr Aliyu recalled the previous partnership of ICPC with the Kano State PCACC in the areas of training and sought a continued partnership with the agency in the fight against corruption.
Ogugua stated that the courtesy call featured goodwill messages from the chairman of the Kano State PCACC and the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
