Bread Hike: Zamfara bakeries beg FG to intervene

Zamfara State Confectionary and Bread Sellers Association have appealed to the federal government to intervene over a hike in the price of flour and other ingredients for bread making in the state and country at large.

The vice chairman of Zamfara State Chamber of Commerce Mine and Agriculture, Habibu Alfijir who is also the secretary of Alfijir Bread and Confectionary said the hike in the prices of bread-making ingredients has forced many Bakery Houses to shut down in the state.

“The hike in prices of sugar, flour and other ingredients has attributes to the relative increase price of bread in the state”.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday evening in Gusau Zamfara state, Alfijir lamented the hike in the prices of the bread making commodities, which he begged the federal government to look into the matter

“We the Zamfara State bakery and Bread Sellers have cried out, we need urgent government intervention particularly the issue of subsidy where we can only buy dollars now from outside the central bank”, he lamented.

He noted that the prices of the commodities have continued going high,” but Alhamdulillah the present leadership of Zamfara Chamber of commerce, mine and Agriculture under the chairmanship of Alhaji Hassan Buhari Tafidan Maradun has made a giant stride toward assisting bakery houses in the state.”

He appealed to the Federal and State Governments to intervene and assist members to keep on with their businesses before the situation becomes completely unbearable.
